CAF Women’s Awards 2024: Nigeria dominates with Nnadozie, Edo Queens, Super Falcons in the spotlight

Nigeria has asserted its footballing prowess with an impressive representation on the final shortlist for the 2024 CAF Women’s Awards, scheduled for December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Super Falcons’ goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie leads the charge with two prestigious nominations: Women’s Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year.

The Paris FC star faces stiff competition, including Malawi’s Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga, Morocco’s Sanaâ Mssoudy, and Zambia’s Barbra Banda for the Player of the Year title.

For the Goalkeeper of the Year award, Nnadozie goes head-to-head with Fideline Ngoy (DR Congo), Khadija Er-Rmichi (Morocco), and South Africa’s Andile Dlamini.

Another rising Nigerian star, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu of Rivers Angels, has earned a nomination for Young Player of the Year, joining top young talents from Morocco, Egypt, and South Africa.

The Super Falcons are in contention for the Women’s National Team of the Year, competing alongside Morocco, South Africa, Zambia, and Cameroon U-20.

Falconets’ coach Chris Danjuma has also been acknowledged, receiving a nod for Women’s Coach of the Year, reflecting his exceptional work with Nigeria’s U-20 team.

On the club level, reigning Nigerian Women League champions Edo Queens have been shortlisted for Women’s Club of the Year, highlighting their domestic success.
