Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi: The philosopher of Kaduna politics
As the year draws to a close, the Kaduna Integrity Groups (KINDS) takes this opportunity to reflect on the exceptional leadership and enduring legacy of His Excellency Senator Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, described as the Philosopher of Kaduna Politics.
According to a statement by Rt. Comrade Abdullahi Ladan, Coordinator, Kaduna Integrity Groups (KINDS), Senator Makarfi’s impact as the Secretary of the National Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is evident in the growth and success of Kaduna’s political and developmental landscape. His visionary leadership has shaped the careers of many leaders who continue to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s progress.
Makarfi’s kindness and leadership have produced key leaders, including Muhammad Namadi Sambo, who went on to become Governor and later Vice President. He is also credited for recommending “Malam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja,” who subsequently mentored “Senator Uba Sani, now Governor of Kaduna State.”
Others who benefited from Makarfi’s leadership include Abubakar Sadik Mamman Lagos, former Caretaker Chairman of Kaduna North Local Government Area, and Honourable Sani Suleiman, who served as Chairman under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
During his tenure as Governor, Makarfi displayed an “open-door policy,” which reflected his commitment to “transparency and accountability.” His administration empowered the youth, supported local contractors, and championed peaceful coexistence among political groups.

“He made history as the first governor to construct a flyover in the 19 Northern states and succeeded in attracting higher investors to Northern Nigeria. His vision cemented Kaduna’s reputation as the headquarters of the 19 Northern states.”
Known as the “Early Warning Master” for his ability to address challenges proactively, Makarfi ensured his accessibility by never switching off his phone number throughout his governorship.
His wife, Hajia Asma’u, also left a significant mark by “empowering over 5,000 women through poverty alleviation programs,” further demonstrating the family’s commitment to societal progress.
Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi’s legacy of leadership, his ability to empower others, and his dedication to good governance have earned him recognition as a national leader and the Philosopher of Kaduna Politics. His exemplary leadership remains an inspiration for all.
“His courageous leadership has maintained Kaduna State as the headquarters of the 19 Northern states,” and his remarkable contributions continue to resonate across generations,” the statement concluded.
