Referee Coote dismissed over derogatory remarks about Klopp
Premier League referee David Coote has been sacked after an investigation into his conduct found him guilty of serious breaches of his employment contract.
The 42-year-old official was suspended last month after a video surfaced on social media showing him making derogatory remarks about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
The video, which appeared to refer to a 2020 match between Liverpool and Burnley, showed Coote branding Klopp “arrogant” and using offensive language.
Klopp had criticised Coote’s performance in the match, saying he had been too lenient in his treatment of Burnley challenges.
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) announced Coote’s termination in a statement, saying his position had become “untenable.” The organisation also expressed its commitment to supporting Coote’s welfare.

Coote is also facing UEFA disciplinary proceedings over a separate video that allegedly shows him snorting a white powder during Euro 2024.
Additionally, the Football Association is investigating allegations that Coote discussed betting on giving a yellow card with a fan before a match in England’s second-tier Championship.
Coote’s final Premier League game was Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa on November 9.
