Court jails man 10 years for indecent treatment of minor
A man named Bamidele Folorunsho was given a 10-year prison sentence by an Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday for inappropriately touching a 12-year-old girl’s breast.
After Folorunsho entered a guilty plea to two modified counts of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child, Justice Rahman Oshodi sentenced him.
At some point in October 2021, Folorunsho was charged with defilement and entered a not guilty plea.
Later, as part of a plea bargain, Folorunsho altered his not guilty plea to guilty. As a result, the court questioned him about his comprehension of the terms of the plea deal.
The prisoner acknowledged that he entered the plea willingly and that he was happy with his attorney’s recommendation.
Oshodi stated during Wednesday’s judgment delivery that the court was confident the convicted party understood the terms of his plea and the court’s duty to impose the harshest punishment possible for the offense.
“Based on your plea in the amended information dated December 11, I have found you guilty. I’ve given the plea deal and your expression of regret a lot of thought.”
According to the judge, “I hereby sentence you to 10 years imprisonment, which will commence from the day of your arrest on March 22, 2018, and your name shall be registered as a sex offender.”
Ms. Olufunmilayo Aluko, the State Counsel, had previously told the court that a plea and punishment agreement had been reached by both parties.
Therefore, the prosecution informed the court that the defendant committed the offenses on Lambo Lasunwon Street First Gate in Ikorodu, Lagos, sometime in February 2018.
The prosecution said that by fondling the minor’s breasts and stroking her anus with his hands, the convicted person had treated her indecently.
Sections 135 and 263 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Laws are violated, the prosecution claims.
