Court sentences Paul Pogba’s brother for extorting football star
A Paris court on Thursday sentenced Mathias Pogba, the brother of French football star Paul Pogba, to three years in prison, with two years suspended, following his conviction in a widely publicised extortion case.
Mathias Pogba, however, will serve his one-year prison term under electronic monitoring instead of behind bars.
The court also imposed a €20,000 fine on Mathias for his involvement in the attempted extortion of €13 million ($13.5 million) from his brother in 2022.
He was also found guilty of exerting pressure on Paul Pogba, his family, and business associates to secure the payment.
Six men, including Mathias Pogba and three of Paul Pogba’s childhood friends, are accused of attempting to extort €13 million from the Juventus midfielder.
The group allegedly orchestrated a scheme to kidnap Paul in March 2022, holding him at gunpoint and demanding money for “services rendered.”

Paul claimed he paid €100,000 and was pressured at various locations, including his club’s training grounds.
Mathias is accused of using public threats and videos to pressure Paul and his family to pay, though he denies involvement in the kidnapping. The men face charges of extortion, kidnapping, and forming a criminal gang.
