Oleksandr Usyk retains heavyweight title with unanimous decision win over Tyson Fury
Oleksandr Usyk has once again proven himself as the undisputed heavyweight champion, defeating Tyson Fury by unanimous decision in their highly anticipated rematch.
The two fighters squared off on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with Usyk walking away victorious for the second consecutive time, retaining his WBC, WBO, and WBA titles.
The rematch, a follow-up to their thrilling first bout in May, saw Fury come out strong early on. After eight rounds, the British boxer was ahead on two of the three judges’ scorecards, with scores of 77-75 and 76-76.

However, Usyk turned the fight in his favor with a stunning knockdown of Fury in Round 9. He followed that up by winning the last two rounds, earning the nod from the judges with scores of 116-112 on all three cards.
Usyk’s victory not only retained his titles but also reaffirmed his place at the top of the heavyweight division. With a perfect record of 23-0, including 14 knockouts, the 37-year-old Ukrainian fighter now stands as one of the most dominant figures in boxing.
Tyson Fury, 36, who was looking to reclaim his heavyweight supremacy, was unable to match Usyk’s pace in the latter stages of the fight. Fury, who has a record of 34-2-1 with 24 knockouts, struggled in his previous bout against former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in October 2023, winning by a narrow split decision. Against Usyk, Fury faced a relentless opponent who capitalised on every opportunity to seize control of the fight.
Usyk, a former undisputed cruiserweight champion, moved up to the heavyweight division in 2019 and has quickly established himself as a dominant force. With this victory, Usyk further solidifies his place in boxing history, joining the ranks of heavyweight greats. His previous victories over Anthony Joshua in 2021 and 2022 have already cemented his legacy, and now, with two wins over Fury, Usyk stands as the undeniable king of the heavyweight division.
As Usyk celebrates this triumph, all eyes are on him to see who will step up to challenge the Ukrainian powerhouse next.
