Alleged ₦33.8bn Fraud: EFCC present 4 additional witnesses against Saleh Mamman

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, January 13, 2025, intensified its prosecution of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, by presenting four additional witnesses in his ongoing ₦33.8 billion fraud trial before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Mamman faces a 12-count charge of conspiracy and money laundering involving ₦33,804,830,503.73. The EFCC alleges that the former minister engaged in fraudulent practices during his tenure.

Speaking on the case, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said: “Mamman is being prosecuted on a 12-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit money laundering to the tune of ₦33.8 billion.”

During Monday’s proceedings, the EFCC’s lead counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, introduced four witnesses: Mishelia R.B. (PW4), Mayowa Itiku (PW5), Lily Marama (PW6), and Oluwunmi Ogunloye (PW7). The witnesses, Compliance Officers from Zenith Bank, UBA, GTB, and Wema Bank, provided testimonies on account activities linked to ten business entities allegedly involved in the case, including Sami Court Resort Limited and Golden Bond Nigeria Limited.

The witnesses confirmed responding to EFCC’s formal requests for account details and submitted documents that detailed the operations of the implicated accounts. These documents, verified as authentic by the witnesses, were admitted into evidence by the court.

Justice Omotosho subsequently adjourned the trial to January 22, 23, and 24, 2025, for the continuation of hearings, during which the EFCC is expected to further present evidence against Mamman.
