The Theatre Commander, Operation LAFIYA DOLE says several clearances, as well as cordon and search operations in urban and rural areas, have been intensified in Borno in its drive to clear the remnants of Boko Haram in the state.

In a statement, Lt. Colonel Kingsley Samuel of Operation Lafiya Dole, said the clearance operation has been yielding several successful results.

Earlier on Friday, Army officers surrounded and cordoned Pompamari bypass, a busy street in Maiduguri that houses some officials of the United Nations among other officials.

Army officers arrived the street early on Friday

The intensified cordon and search operation was as a result of intelligence reports that indicated some top Boko Haram members could be hiding among the unsuspecting public.
Areas cordoned and searched so far include Jiddari –Polo, Muna Garage, Jakana amongst several other areas.
The statement said “On 10th August 2017, Theatre Command received information from one of its credible sources that some top Boko Haram suspects had infiltrated Pompomari Bye Pass.”

This according to the statement, necessitated the need to intensify Cordon and Search in Maiduguri metropolis.

The statement added that “the operation was successful as over 30 houses were searched.

“One of such included a property which was said to be occupied by United Nations Staff, although the property did not carry a UN designation,” the statement added.

“On the whole, operation in the general area was successfully concluded but no arrest was made because the suspects were not found.”

The statement stressed that “the command wishes to assure the general public that these operations are being conducted to safeguard lives and properties but not targeted at any individual or group.
