Gaza-bound flotilla ship attacked off Tunisia, organisers say “mission continues”
The flagship vessel of the Global Sumud Flotilla, the Family, was reportedly struck by a drone off the coast of Sidi Bou Said in Tunisia.
The Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian initiative aiming to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza, stated that an IOF (Israeli Occupation Forces) drone was responsible for the attack.
The group, which includes activists and civilians from various countries, confirmed that all crew members and passengers on board were safe and that a fire caused by the attack was quickly extinguished.
However, Tunisian authorities have disputed the claim of a drone strike.
According to Tunisia’s Interior Ministry and National Guard, an initial investigation suggests that a fire on board the ship was caused by life jackets igniting and that no drones were detected in the area. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The flotilla’s organisers have shared CCTV footage that they say shows the moment the drone struck the vessel, causing an explosion and fire.

They have stated that “acts of aggression aimed at intimidating and derailing our mission will not deter us” and that their “peaceful mission to break the siege on Gaza and stand in solidarity with its people continues with determination and resolve.”
