Governor Buni presents 2026 budget to Yobe lawmakers

YOBe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has presented a N515.583 billion Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the Yobe State House of Assembly, with a sharp focus on completing ongoing projects and driving infrastructural development.
The budget which was tagged: “Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation,” was presented to the legislature on Thursday in Damaturu.
In a significant allocation aimed at development, a substantial 62.7% of the total budget, amounting to N323.455 billion, is earmarked for capital expenditure while the recurrent expenditure, covering personnel and overhead costs, received N192.128 billion, representing 37.3% of the budget.
Governor Buni, addressing the assembly, stated that the budget is designed to advance the state’s post-insurgency recovery and speed up socio-economic development despite global financial constraints.
“Our budget for the year 2026 would prioritise key sectors and programmes that have direct impact on the lives of our people,” Buni said.
“Sectoral Breakdown: Economic and Social Services get lion’s share where economic sector received the largest allocation of N245.7 billion (47.7%), dedicated to infrastructure like roads and agricultural development.
“Social Services Sector followed with N200.3 billion (38.9%), which will fund education, healthcare, and other community-oriented programmes and administration sector allocated N63.9 billion (12.4%) to cover government operations.
“Law and Justice Sector received N5.9 billion (1.1%) and major infrastructure projects highlighted”.
Governor Buni outlined an ambitious road construction agenda, promising to complete the Damaturu fly over in the first quarter of 2026. Other key projects include; construction of a three-lane road on both sides of the dual carriageway from Potiskum (Pilgrims) roundabout to the Stadium roundabout.
“Others are township roads and drainages in Damaturu, Potiskum, Nguru, Gashua, Geidam, and Buni Yadi.
“Several inter-local government roads, including the Bayamari-Geidam road and the Nangere-Kayeri road and additional road projects through the Rural Access Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) and the SOLID project, which will see 25 kilometers of road constructed in Damaturu.
Buni explained that the administration sector will see the construction of new offices for the Speaker and Principal Officers of the House, alongside the completion of office complexes for several ministries and agencies.
Funds have also been allocated for the renovation of offices, provision of furniture, and training for civil servants while to bolster security, the government plans to provide vehicles and other logistical support to security agencies.
