Police officer killed, Chinese national kidnapped in fresh Oyo attack

Gunmen have killed a police officer and abducted a Chinese expatriate during a violent attack in Oyo State, heightening concerns over rising insecurity in the South-West.
The incident occurred when armed assailants reportedly ambushed a security team escorting the expatriate at an undisclosed location in the state. During the attack, one police officer, whose name has not yet been officially released, was shot dead, while the expatriate was forcefully taken away by the attackers.

Sources within the security services said the gunmen struck swiftly and fled the scene before reinforcements could arrive. The assailants were said to have escaped into nearby bushes, taking the abducted Chinese national with them.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Command said a manhunt had been launched to track down the perpetrators and rescue the abducted expatriate. The command added that tactical and intelligence units had been deployed to the area, while security operations were being intensified across the state.

The police expressed condolences to the family of the slain officer, describing him as a gallant personnel who died in the line of duty. Investigations into the attack are ongoing.
The incident adds to a series of recent security challenges in parts of Oyo State, with residents and stakeholders calling for stronger security measures to protect lives, property and foreign nationals working in the state.
