Jigawa Police arrest newlywed for alleged husband poisoning
A newly married woman has been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly poisoning her husband, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The suspect, identified as Aisha Bello, reportedly administered a toxic substance to her husband, Musa Bello, at their residence in Dutse Local Government Area. The victim fell seriously ill and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
According to the police, investigations revealed that the suspect’s actions were premeditated, prompting the command to detain her for questioning under Section 221 of the Penal Code, which deals with acts of poisoning and attempted murder.

Jigawa State Police spokesperson, SP Lawal Ibrahim, said the arrest followed credible intelligence and that detectives were gathering evidence, including medical and forensic reports, to support prosecution.
The police warned the public against taking the law into their own hands and assured that the suspect would be charged in accordance with the law.
Neighbours described the couple as quiet and peaceful, expressing shock over the incident. The command has appealed to residents to report suspicious activities promptly to prevent such cases.

The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to ascertain the motive behind the alleged poisoning.
