Yobe Gov’t distributes food stuffs to 20,000 households

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Thursday said it distributed food items to about 20,000 most vulnerable households across the 17 local government areas in the state.

Dr Muhammed Goje, the Executive Secretary Yobe SEMA disclosed this at one of the agency’s warehouses in Damaturu while loading the food items on vehicles to various local government areas in the state.

“This is one of the ongoing interventions of Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni As you know, periodically the state government responds and reach out to the most vulnerable people towards Ramadan period.

“As well as looking at the challenges posed across the globe, Buni directed us that give food items to approximately 20, 000 households in all the 17 local government areas in the state.”, he said.

Goje said committees had been set up in all the 17 local government areas comprising all the stakeholders who would be responsible to share those items to the most vulnerable in the respective communities.

He added that vulnerability depends on different criteria such as humanitarian principles, the severity of the crisis affecting those communities and the hardship posed by the present knockdown orders as a result of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

He noted that the agency would distribute 21,000 bags of rice and other condiments like vegetable oil tomatoes with special consideration and additional items to the orphanage house, remand homes.

Goje also emphasized that all the 17 local government areas would soon receive their items for onward distribution.
