After the Presidency announced that President Muhammadu Buhari would be working from home in the meantime due to ongoing renovations of his office, it has come out again to say the President would be working fully from his office.
The President’s spokesperson Garba Shehu had said on some media that the president would be working from home following his return to the country after “rodents” damaged furniture in the office of the President.
“These are also general works and it is not uncommon for Nigerian presidents to also work from the presidential villa. He has used the residential office for many years,” said Shehu.
“What is important is that the job gets done. Whether he does it from his bedroom or his sitting room or his anteroom — it does not matter. Let the job be done. And the job will be done,” Shehu was reported to have said on separate media including BBC’s Africa today.
“There’s nothing at all to worry about as to the condition of his own health. From everything we have seen from the president – we have a new Buhari: energetic, well focused and it is clear he is enjoying excellent health,” he stressed.
However, this has led to massive criticisms online and on traditional media.
But the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina in a recent video said there was a misrepresentation of the facts.
He said the President wouldn’t be working from home as it is widely reported but will be working from a home office.
“Different slangs and interpretations given to the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari is working from the office in his house for now. I can’t really understand what the fuss is all about, because the complex (Presidential villa) acommodates the house and the office area, now the regular office needs some renovation because 103 days of absence affected it- there were some deterioration there,” he said.
“There is an office in the house that is almost a replica of the regular office so that is where he is working from but the reporter has given the impression that Mr President is luxuriating at home, No! He works in the office in the house,” he said.
“In the office in the house was where he signed the letter to the National Assembly intimating them of his return to work…” he added.
