The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said the 40 days ultimatum given to arrest the dreaded Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau is just a guide to the overall objective to be achieved by Operation Lafiya Dole in its fight against Boko Haram in the North East.
In a monthly Press briefing by the Theater Commander, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru at the Military Command Center, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, the Theater Commander disclosed that the command will take a decisive deal to end the insurgency, saying capturing Shekau is an enhancer to that task.
Already he said, 82 suspected Boko Haram members were killed and the troops have recovered 70 assorted rifles and over 1000 ammunitions from the dreaded Boko Haram during the period under review.
Major General Attahiru said another 313 Boko Haram members were arrested in different locations in the troubled North East.
According to him, 68 insurgents willingly surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole.
Over 630 settlements were cleared by the military as well as another 468 towns were restored.
In an hour briefing, the Theater Commander of the Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Attahiru called on Boko Haram members to abandon their hypocritical leaders that continue deceiving them, adding that, anyone willing to surrender can do so at any Military post.
