Nigerians should not be surprised by Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan’s open declaration of support for Atiku Abubakar in his presidential aspirations, Governor of Kaduna state has said.
Nasir El-Rufai was reacting to the video where Aisha Alhassan declared her support for the former vice president, pledging allegiance to him, while still a Minister in the Buhari administration.
Even though President Buhari has not formally announced whether he would contest the 2019 election or not, loyalists of President Buhari have described the Minister’s move as unpatriotic and disloyal to her present boss.

Atiku contested in the APC primaries for the 2015 general elections where he came third.
El-Rufia said that the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had warned Buhari against appointing Alhassan as a minister but the President ignored the warning.
He added that Alhassan was never a Buhari supporter and didn’t even vote him in the 2015 election, adding, however, that her retention of her office or not would be a decision solely for the president to make.
In her response to critics, Alhassan said she stood by her words and decision to support Atiku and said she didn’t care if she was removed from office for it.
Critics opine that her actions call for resignation in order to “keep her honor”.
But as at Friday, September 8, Aisha Alhassan was still a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
