Former pension boss, Maina, released from Kuje prison

The former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team Abdulrasheed Maina,
has been released from the Kuje prison in Abuja.

One of Maina’s counsels, Ademola Adedipe confirmed this to newsmen on Tuesday that Maina was released at about 6 pm on Monday.

“We are happy that he had been released; he can now attend to his health and have unfettered access to his defence team in preparation for his defence in court,” he said.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) is prosecuting Maina and others for alleged money laundering.

According to the report by newsmen, the Abuja Federal High Court Judge, Justice Abang had varied Maina’s bail conditions twice following the defendant’s application.

One of the bail conditions was a surety who must be a serving Senator, among others.

Senator Ali Ndume Borno South eventually stood in for him.

Upon his arraignment in November 2019, Maina pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The trial judge had adjourned the case until September 29.
