Potiskum Central Mosque reconstruction to commence January

Project work of reconstruction and remodeling of the Potiskum Central Mosque, Yobe State would commence January 1st 2018 according to Alhaji Baba Ba’aba, Chairman of the Potiskum Central Mosque work project when he spoke to newsmen shortly after the opening of the contract bidding held at the Palace of the Emir of Fika at the weekend.
He said the committee organized an appeal fund launching of N350 million  where N300 million was realized from pledges and cash donations but “we are only able to collect N140 million from the donors while the rest are yet to redeem their pledges but we are following it up”.
He revealed that four companies have declared interest in executing the project.
Elegance Nigeria Limited applied for the construction with the cost of N188,725.47k with a completion period of 16 weeks while KAKSON Engineering and Construction Limited said it would do the job at N238,198,785.30k with unstated completion period.
ASAD Nigeria Limited plans to execute it at the cost of N226,307,422 and complete it in 6 months time while Main Structures Limited gave a bill of N317,790,360.30k and to complete in 42 weeks.
The Committee was given ten days to produce a competent and reputable company to embark on the project immediately.
Meanwhile, the Fika Emirate Council, Potiskum said the appeal fund was initiated to expand and modify the existing mosques structurally, in addition to provision of other requirements that would adequately accommodate the ever increasing worshipers in the town.
“It’s our fervent hope that when the work is eventually completed, the central mosque will continue to perform not only its function as a place of worship but also a centre of Islamic discuss and learning”, it said.
