Story from Kenneth AFOR, Lagos

Christopher Enyinnaya, 36, a driver with Day Clear Oil and Gas, Lekki, Lagos, was yesterday sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing his company’s truck worth about N10.5 million.

He was sentenced by Magistrate A.M Davies of Apapa Magistrates’ Court after he found guilty of a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing by the police.

Enyinnaya’s offences according to the Police Counsel, Reuben Solomon, were punishable under sections 411 and 287 (7) of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.

Enyinnaya and the Assistant Manager of the oil company, Nwakwo John Paul were first arraigned before the court on the two-count chargeback in 2017 when they were arrested after the police were informed by the Managing Director of the company, Mr Ernest Abulime.

The convict was sent to take the truck with registration number JJJ 482 XC to the mechanic for repair but he took the elsewhere which he sold and went to hiding but unfortunately he was fished out, according to the Police Counsel, Solomon, who informed the Court.

However, John Paul was discharged and acquitted on the ground that the prosecution could not find evidence linking him with the theft of the truck but maintains the conviction of Enyinnaya.
