The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has finally suspended its nine-month-old industrial action.
The union announced the suspension of the strike at a press conference held Wednesday morning in Abuja.

ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, who led other National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Union to the event where he made the announcement, explained that the suspension takes effect from today, Wednesday 23, 2020.
According to Ogunyemi, the decision to suspend the strike followed after a meeting held by NEC earlier.
Ogunyemi further added that the issue of IPPIS has also been resolved.
On when studies would resume fully in the nation’s public universities in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, he said the teachers were ready to resume as long full health measures are put in place.
“As far as we are concerned, we are ready to resume work. Let the government do what is needed to ensure safety. We insist that the COVID-19 protocol should be observed,” Ogunyemi said.
