774,000 Special Public Work (SPW) ‘jobs’ to take off on Tuesday – Keyamo

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the take-off of the Special Public Works (SPW) Programme to commence nationwide on Tuesday, January 05, 2020.

This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, via his Twitter handle.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the take-off of the Special Public Works Programme (engaging 774,000 unemployed itinerant Nigerians) to begin nationwide on Tuesday, January 5th, 2021. All NDE state structures are already in top gear for the take-off ceremonies,” the Minister’s tweet read

The Federal Government’s SPW Programme is aimed at employing 774,000 youths across the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria, under its co-ordinating agency, The National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

The Programme began on the 1st of November, 2020 until its take-off was halted by the House of Representatives, following the ‘frosty relationship’ between Mr Keyamo and the then Director-General of the NDE, Nasiru Argungu culminating in the sack of the latter.
