The Presidential Committee on North East Initiative (PCNI) is to begin a free medical intervention for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Gombe State.
The Vice Chairman of the organization, Malam Tijjani Musa Tumsah disclosed this in Gombe yesterday when the committee paid a courtesy visit to Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.
He said the medical outreach will commence on Monday through Friday in collaboration with the state government and that the intervention will be in diverse fields.
Tumsah said the committee has commenced a five days retreat in Gombe to strategise the way forward on how to actualize the goals of the PCNI.
“We are transiting from intervention to development of projects in the North East”, he said.
In his response, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo commended the PCNI for its various interventions adding that all were judiciously utilized.
He urged the committee to carry out more developmental projects in the region as the committee’s name suggests.
He also prayed that IDPs’ camps in the North East region will be a history in the nearest future.
“We in Gombe, we do not have IDPs’ camp, we have provided accommodation for IDPs and they were integrated in the host communities.
“Some of them were not willing to go back to where they came from because they are comfortable in Gombe.” He said.
