Last year (2020), offices in the Yobe Investment House building located in the Central Business Area of Abuja was given a circular alerting them on current security situations happening in the building as things were beginning to get missing.
Responding to the circular, some offices were able to put some security measures in place like putting a camera at their office doorposts.
On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at about 5:30 pm at Lotus Capital Halal Investments in the Investment House, Federal Secretariat, Abuja, a man was caught stealing a laptop.
Mr Basheed Saidu, a staff at Lotus Capital told Neptune Prime he heard strange noises and came out to check what was happening and saw a man running down the stairs with a laptop which was inside a brown envelope.
The man who disclosed his name as Hakeem Okenwo, 43, denied stealing anything at first, saying the laptop was just in his hand but he didn’t steal it, saying he came to do travel insurance for himself and his kids.
After a few minutes when the security was alerted and them threatening to lock him up, he then confessed that he stole the laptop because his wife is heavily pregnant and is currently in the hospital and that he needed the money for his kids.
However, upon further investigation, the Yobe House chief security officer, popularly known as Pontive, checked previous footages from the CCTV installed in the building which captured the suspect’s face loitering around offices.
Mr Pontive also noted that at a campaign office in the building reported the case of missing laptops last year of which the suspect’s face was captured on that day in the CCTV.
