Kebbi fire service gives 2020 scorecard: Records 165 emergency calls, rescue N.4 million worth of properties

Kebbi state fire service director Alhaji Yahya Garba Zazzagawa, has applauded the state fire service department for the success recorded in the year 2020 in the state saving lives and averting fire disasters.

Speaking in his office in Birnin Kebbi,the state fire chief said the service received 165 fire calls from victims across the state and were able through conserted efforts to save about N 449,990 worth of property that could have been lost to various fire incidents.

He also stated that regrettably about N 240,540 worth of property were lost to different fire infernos across the state, adding that a lady identified simply as Zainab from Ambursa village Birnin local government was killed by fire.

Garba further added that from January till date in 2021 the department received 15 fire calls and recorded fire related loss of N14,495.

According to him most of the fire incidents were either caused by electrical gadgets or poor storage of animal hay and/dry grasses that are highly combustibles and urged residents to ensure they turn off electrical gadgets before leaving their houses, keep grasses or animals feeds away from the main building to avoid contact during fire outbreak advising households to install fire extinguishers at strategic places in their homes to easily combat fire from the initial stage and to avoid its spread.
