Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is expected to defect to the APC.
The former PDP factional leader will be leading his supporters to the APC secretariat and he will be received by top APC officials.
Sheriff was a factional chairman of the PDP before he was removed by the Supreme Court.
According to reports, Sheriff is expected to be at the APC secretariat today, Thursday, April 26. He will be received by John Oyegun and other APC officials. Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, who served as deputy national chairman of the PDP while Sheriff was chairman was at the APC national secretariat in preparation for the defection.
Meanwhile, the APC said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s reported support for Adams Oshiomhole as chairman of the party is not binding. This was reiterated by the national publicity secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, on Wednesday, April 25.
He said: “What we were told at the meeting was that he was asked who he wanted and he told them his preference which has nothing to do with the meeting today.”
According to him, they were reviewing the time table of the national convention because some governors noted that it was too close.
