OAU staff commits suicide after leaving note for wife

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state on Thursday disclosed that a local guard in the institution, Fisayo Oyeniyi has sent himself to the world beyond after sending a suicide message to his family.

It was gathered that Oyeniyi left his working place for his house around Kanmi bus stop, at Ifewara road, Ile-Ife to commit suicide.

Oyeniyi was said to have committed suicide on Saturday, March 20 by hanging himself at his house located at Kanmi Bus stop, Ifewara road, Ile-Ife around 12noon. He was buried on Sunday 21 March

The school’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, while speaking with newsmen on Thursday said the deceased sent a message to his wife, who was living with his mother that he was tired of living before leaving his workplace for his house.

“From what we learnt, he sent a message to his mother and the wife, together with the children, complaining of lack of interest in living again.

“He left office without raising any suspicion as he eventually hanged himself four hours after sending the message.

“Nobody knew what he was up to because they just found his body dangling in his room.

“The university management sympathise with the deceased’s mother, wife and two children. The children and wife live with his mother”, he said.

Meanwhile, the state police command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, said the matter was yet to be reported to the police promising to get back to the public on the incident.
