The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Abubakar Sa’ad III has announced sighting of Ramadan crescent on Monday.

He then urged Muslims across the length and breadth of the country to start the one-month old annual ritual on Tuesday.

Saudi Arabia too will observe Ramadan from Tuesday, state media in the kingdom reported.

Observers confirmed that the first fast of the month of Ramadan (Ranzan) will commence on Tuesday, April 13, after the new moon was sighted on Monday evening and reported the sighting to religious authorities.

After approving the sighting, the Saudi Supreme Court said that Tuesday would be the first day of the holy month.

“Ramadan comes this year as the world reels under coronavirus pandemic. We ask everyone to adhere to the preventive measures and take the initiative to receive the vaccines,” Saudi King Salman was quoted as saying by Al Ekhbariya.

King Salman urged people in the country to follow coronavirus preventive measures to ensure the safety of people performing Umrah.
