From Fatima Bukar, Abuja
The federal government has been charged to ensure that masterminds of the odious invasion of National Assembly, have been brought to book.
Legislative aides to the Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki who made the call, demanded the immediate prosecution of anyone found to have orchestrated the illegal act which obstructed a very important arm of government from carrying out its lawful duties.
The Senate President’s aides made the demands in a statement signed by their coordinator and a special assistant to Saraki, Alh Biodun Baraje.
They argued that the sacking of the Director- General of the Department of State Security Service (DSS), Mamman Daura was not enough given the odium that the illegal occupation of the national assembly exposed the nation to.
“Full investigation must be carried out by the federal government to fish out the masterminds, perpetrators of the blockade of NASS by masked DSS operators. The whole World deserves to know those who are illegally hellbent in changing the popular leadership of the Senate and consequently truncate the nation’s hard earned democracy.
“If truly, the presidency did not authorised the NASS blockade as being claimed, then the Acting President should ask the DSS DG to name the person (s) that gave him the directive to deployed his men to the assembled complex. Nothing sort of this will exonerate the presidency from the illegal act.
“It’s also important that the presidency ensure that those who flagrantly violate the nation’s constitution and desperate the legislative arm of government are prosecuted. This will serve as deterrent to others”.
The legislative aides thanked Nigerians and the international community for rising stoutly in the defence of democracy and the rule of law through their prompt condemnation of the illegal invasion of NASS.
They also praised the leadership of the two chambers of NASS for speaking with one voice on the issue, irrespective of political affiliation and differences.
