COVID-19: NCDC records 30 new cases in Nigeria

The Italian government has pledged to inoculate all Nigerians resident in Italy with the COVID-19 vaccine.

The President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, stated this when he received a letter of credence from the Nigerian Ambassador to Italy, His Excellency Mfawa Omini Abam, at the Quirinal Palace, Rome Italy.

“The Nigerian Ambassador to Italy, His Excellency Mfawa Abam, conveyed the greetings of President Muhammadu Buhari to his Italian counterpart.

“I have the distinct honour to extend to Your Excellency and the good and friendly people of Italy, the fraternal greetings and goodwill of your friend and brother, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

Italy, which is one of the countries that have aggressive vaccination policy put in place also offered to inoculate Nigerians on a visit to the country.

President Mattarella, who emphasised the need to improve on the diplomatic relations between Italy and Nigeria, said he is happy to receive Ambassador Abam at this point in time when his country has decided to pursue an aggrieve investment in Nigeria.

He assured the Nigerian government that Italy will increase cooperation and partnership with Nigeria in all areas.

Also, Italy will collaborate more in terms of construction, training college students and security personnel, as well as in the oil and gas sector.

The Italian President also promised that his country will look at the issue of the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) which was raised by the Nigerian envoy.

“Majority of Nigerians in Italy are law-abiding, as such the Italians feel comfortable living with them,” he added.

President Mattarella disclosed that his government will continue to collaborate with the Nigerian government in terms of security training to combat terrorism globally.
