A statement issued on Monday by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema confirmed that troops of the Nigerian Army 152 Task Force Battalion in conjunction with the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai on Sunday neutralised 12 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno state.
Nwachukwu said the terrorists, who attempted to infiltrate the Forward Operational Base at Bula Yobe in Borno State came mounted on gun trucks and several motorcycles were however confronted violently by a heavy volume of fire from the vigilant troops, subsequently forcing them to retreat.
He said the troops were able to sustain the firefight, which they later succeeded in annihilating 12 out of the terrorists, forcing the rest to cease fire and flee with severe injuries.
Items belonging to the terrorists such as one gun truck, one Self Propelled Gun-9, one Dushika gun, one mounted QJC Machine Gun, one Light Machine Gun and five AK 47 Rifles, were seized by the troops.
The statement further revealed that two soldiers lost their lives in the battle, and five others have been evacuated by the Air component of OPHK to a medical facility, and are receiving the best medical attention for wounds they sustained.
In this regard, the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Faruk Yahaya praised the soldiers and the air component for their synergy and quick response.
He also urged them to never relent in their efforts till the issue of insecurity in the country is completely neutralised.
Brigadier General Nwachukwu states that the area within FOB Bula Yobe is now secured by the army, and calm at the moment, he said the troops of the battalion are further working hard to make sure the same happens to all other areas captured by the terrorists.
