A Kenyan woman, Diana Nasimiyu Kibisi, is being held in police custody for allegedly strangling her two children to death in Jerusalem-Waithaka, Dagorreti sub-county, of Nairobi.

Dagoretti sub-county Commander, Francis Wahome, said the suspect killed the children on Sunday evening, July 25, and went to Waithaka Police Station to surrender herself.

She directed officers to where she left the remains of her children, Sydney Miheso, 4, and Miracle Miheso, 2. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found the corpses of the two children lying on the sofa of her house after which she was immediately arrested and taken to the police station as she awaits further investigations and arraignment. The police had taken the remains of the two children to the City Mortuary awaiting autopsy.

Police said, according to neighbours, Diana committed the crime after some domestic disagreements with her husband, Alex. They said the woman killed the children to get back at her husband, though the police said preliminary investigations are still on to establish the reason she committed the act.

The sources further said Diana’s mother-in-law had travelled from Lugari to Nairobi to help her and her husband Alex Miheso sort out their domestic differences, which wasn’t successful as their disagreement simply got worse. It was said that Diana and Alex later saw the mother-in-law off, after which Diana went back home and grabbed the two children’s necks, strangling them to death.

Reacting to the incident, the sad husband and father of the children said they had indeed been facing some challenges in their marriage but he did not expect things to turn out the way they did, with his wife killing their children.

He said “She called in the evening and asked me to come home, that she has killed the children. She has always threatened to kill our kids if I do not do as she demands but I didn’t take her seriously, because they are her children too and I believe she loves them. At times she will send me messages threatening to kill the kids.”

Dagoretti sub-county Police said they were unable to process her for a court appearance on Monday since the incident happened at night and they were still doing some preliminary investigations at the time.

The next court appearance was fixed for Tuesday, July 27, where detectives will ask for more time to finish investigations.
