Hundreds of practising Journalists within and outside Kogi State, on Friday, gathered at Press Centre, Lokoja to pay their last respect to one of their own, Mrs Lucy Damian, whose demise took place last week in Abuja after a brief illness.
A visit to the Secretariat shows many members of the fourth estate mourning while some could not hold back their emotions.
Speaking at the solemn occasion, the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhaji Momojimoh Adeiza described the deceased as a thorough professional colleague who used her expertise to improve society.
Adeiza noted that her commitment to duty propelled the Union to recommend and represent them at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) as an ex-officio.
The state chairman said Journalists within and outside the shores of the state will certainly miss her especially with regards to her professionalism in discharging her duty.
While sympathizing with the family of the deceased, the Council Chairman urged them to take consolation in the fact that she lived a life worthy of emulation.
The State Chairperson, Nigerian Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ Mrs Ann Olurinde described late Mrs Lucy Damian as a Mother-Sister and College who have the interest of all at heart.
Late Mrs Lucy Damian was the pioneer NAWOJ Chairperson in Kogi state who help many women journalists to claim their rightful place in the journalism profession.
She sympathized with her immediate family, her relations with NUJ and NAWOJ for the big loss.
Late Mrs Lucy Damian, was the Head of News and Current Affairs Department, Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, late Lucy marked her 50th birthday a few days before her demise.
She is survived by her husband, three children and other relations.
