A survey conducted by Neptune Prime in Kano and some neighbouring states have shown that young ladies now prefer to marry old men popularly known as sugar daddies, instead of young men that can hardly take care of them, their future or partially their relations.
Our correspondent visited some tertiary institutions in Kano that includes Bayero University, FCE Kano, School of Technology, and other interested commentators that spoke to us said that today, people are undergoing massive suffering and you can hardly tell what will happen tomorrow, though the future is in the hands of God, it is better to take precaution before regretting.
One Hadiza Nuhu, a student of Bayero University, Kano noted that it is true, based on even pictures of some marriages she saw recently on pages of social media that in Kano, for example, young girls now prefer to marry old men, some older than their parents, because of material things not because of love.
She added that in those days, when somebody in secondary school or university approached a lady for marriage or relationship, she will quickly accept because she knows that his future is secured after graduation or once he finished his secondary school education, he will move to a tertiary institution and from there, he will become a responsible member of the society, “you cannot call a jobless graduate or HND holder a useless person because the society did not provide for him after he suffered and graduated”.
Similarly, Ahmed Alhassan a car dealer in Kano added his voice to the debate that young girls these days prefer to marry rich old men than young and single persons because nobody to be honest wants to suffer so love can wait, he noted. Adding that if you watched children of big men getting married to ladies also from rich homes, you will feel like committing suicide because the world which is created by Allah himself has been divided between the rich and the poor by corrupt people in the society.
During the recent wedding of the president’s son, Yusuf to the Daughter of Nasiru Ado Bayero, Emir of Bichi, one man stood in the crowd and announced that he has a beautiful daughter that he is ready to give her hand in marriage to the president’s son, nobody even look at his direction because he is poor and cannot rub shoulders with the rich and the mighty.
Another factor according to Altine Abdullahi National President of Association of Widows and Divorcees that is making young ladies marry old men is greed, they have this belief that since they are young, the old man will die before them, and leave fat bank account, chains of cars, estates and what have you from there, they can now inherit all these and get a young man to marry, that means killing two birds with one stone, on one hand, they marry rich men who die and leaves millions for them, on the other hand, they inherited million and marry a young man of their choice.
Stressing that in Kano, one thing that is polluting the minds of young girls are members of Kannywood, female members that are trooping to Kano on daily basis without even a very good wrapper to wear, once they get a corrupt producer or director that will give them a popular role in a film, then some useless businessmen and politicians including other randy Nigerians will now have the opportunity to go after these poor beautiful actresses before you know what, they will be posing in the social media with jeeps, mansions, expensive handsets, and other luxuries of life, so some of our ladies that are not ready to prostitute in the name of acting will also insist that they must move away from poverty by marrying a rich old man no matter his age.
The stoppage of Hisbah mass marriage in Kano in which government finance the marriages of young men and women, divorcees and widows including giving them foodstuffs and jobs has seriously created a societal problem, the exercise was created by Kwankwaso when reports reached him as governor that Kano have close to 2 Million widows and divorcees, but the present administration on political ground has stopped that.
Neptune Prime also obtained pictures of some young ladies that married old men, for one reason or the other, since they did not speak to us, one cannot guess why in spite of handsome young men roaming the street looking for ladies to marry, these young beautiful girls decided to marry old men that are in some cases than their parents.
