The Borno State government in partnership with World Bank Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) have yesterday Monday 22nd July 2019 commence training of trainers of 150 participants on mine risk awareness to sensitize vulnerable citizen of the population to the threat posed by mines and other explosive hazards in recovery period. The selected participants include;established community-based peace groups, returnees, representatives of internally displaced persons (IDPs), Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Vigilantes and some ward heads.
This training is in line with Borno State Government policies of ensuring safe, dignified, voluntary and organized return of IDPs and encouraging sustainable livelihood through agricultural support to citizens.
The 5 day training will focus on providing information for safety and behavioral change among citizens on MINE RISK EDUCATION and threat as well as general safety advises on avoiding mines related dangers in the communities. In addition to this public awareness approach, Borno State will also use other medium to reach more targeted members of the society to ensure returnees and general populace are safe during this rainy season while embarking on their farming activities.

MCRP is a World funded project aimed “to support the Government of Nigeria towards rehabilitating and improving critical service delivery infrastructure, improving the livelihood of conflict and displacement-affected communities, and strengthening social cohesion in the States of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa”.
