In an effort to understand the concept of National Health Insurance Scheme and the need for the establishment of Yobe state contributory health care scheme, Maternal and Newborn Child Health (MNCH2) Yobe office organized a two day meeting for labour leaders in the state.
Declaring the workshop meeting open, Monday, the strategic coordinator of the MNCH2 in the state, Kaka Gana Mustapha, said the idea behind the workshop was to bring all stakeholders on board in order to achieve the desired objectives. “Labour leaders are also the major stakeholders as contributions would be made from their members to the scheme”, he said.
He appealed to labour leaders to champion the idea for the benefit of the entire citizens of Yobe state.
In his presentation, the Zonal Coordinator of National Health Insurance Scheme, North West Zone, Shuaibu Indabawa, highlighted some major benefits the scheme has for the contributors. “Kano has done it successfully alongside with Jigawa while Yobe is still at the planning stage among very few states in the country that are yet to embrace the scheme”.
In an interview, the chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Yobe State Council, Muktar Musa Tarbutu, commended the organizers of the workshop and assured them that NLC In Yobe will assist in facilitating the establishment of the scheme.
Neptune Prime gathered the meeting was also to share experience on implementation of Kano state contributory health care scheme with the labour leaders and the remarkable improvements in Kano state.
There were thirty participants drawn from various affiliates of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Yobe state council.
