Insecurity: Elder statesman, Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim, faults Gen. Magoro’s advice to PMB

Story from Ibraheem Hamza MUHAMMAD

An elder statesman, Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim has faulted General Muhammadu Magoro’s advice to President Muhammadu Buhari on how to end armed banditry in Nigeria.

According to him, “I heard the speech of General Magoro at an event where he advised the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari on how to end banditry by both Boko Haram and those of kidnappers in the country.

“He talked about recalling ex-servicemen to fight the bandits once and for all.

“I am a democrat who thinks that that is a minority approach to the issue,” he said.

Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim who was the Treasurer of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN), said, “General Magoro should not have talked about recalling ex-servicemen who are few but should have talked about who created or founded the bandits.

“I allege that identifying them is very vital to the fight against banditry.

“The Buhari’s administration should not heed to the advice of General Magoro, but should consider providing employment opportunities for the 70 million unemployed youth, comprising of educated, semi-educated and uneducated who are being recruited as foot soldiers for bandits to perpetuate armed banditry against Nigerians.”

The elder statesman called on General Magoro to consider the majority of unemployed youths and not just a few ex-servicemen.

He said that it is on record that the military has caused the problem of this country by violating their oath of commission to defend the country, but end up overthrowing civilian administrations otherwise known locally as military coups.
