45-year-old man supplying bandits with ammunitions arrested in Katsina

Katsina State Police Command says it has arrested a 45-year-old man, Sani Mamuda for allegedly supplying arms and ammunitions to bandits in Katsina and Zamfara State.

The Public Relations Officer of Katsina Police Command, SP. Gambo Isa disclosed this while parading the suspects on Thursday at the Police Headquarters in Katsina. According to him, the suspect was arrested on Wednesday morning on his way to Zamfara to deliver two AK-47 rifles and two magazines loaded with 42 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

Isa further explained that the suspect concealed the weapons under the seat of his motorcycle while riding to Zamfara State. Similarly, on December 22, 2021, at about 7:30 pm based on credible intelligence, DPO Kurfi Division and his team accosted Mamuda of Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Mamuda is a notorious bandit and arms dealer who specializes in supplying weapons to bandits in the forest of Katsina and Zamfara State and he was arrested along Kurfi Batsari road while on transit from Katsina State to Zamfara State. Mamuda confessed to having bought the two rifles at Mashi forest from one Masudu and Abdullahi who are now at large, the Police said.

The Police Spokesman added that investigation had already begun on the suspect and when concluded he will be taken to competent Court of Jurisdiction. The suspect while responding to questions confessed that he was taking the weapons to some bandits in Zamfara State, adding that he used to make a profit ranging from 50 to 80 thousand naira on each rifle sold. He also said that he is doing so to make ends meet but he has never killed anybody.
