Abducted Benue varsity students regain freedom
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the release of three female students who were abducted from the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture in Makurdi.
The students were kidnapped on February 25, 2025, while returning from a late-night study session on campus.
The news of their release was shared on Thursday via a news flash from the Nigerian Television Authority on X.

Following the abduction, the university management took swift action, announcing a one-week mid-semester break to address the security concerns on campus.
An internal memo from the university, signed by the Registrar, Dr. John David, highlighted the gravity of the situation and the need for heightened security measures.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, had both called for intensified efforts to ensure the safe return of the students.
While the details surrounding their release remain unclear, the news brings relief to their families and the university community, ending a week of uncertainty and concern.
