Abducted Kaduna Anglican priest dies in captivity

The priest in charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Reverend Edwin Achi, has died while in the custody of his abductors.
Reverend Achi and his wife were kidnapped from their home in Nissi Village, near the Kaduna Refinery, on October 28, 2025. Their captors later demanded a ransom of N600 million for their release.
In an official statement, the Diocese of Kaduna, Anglican Communion, announced the cleric’s death, describing it as a heartbreaking blow to the church, the clergy, and all who were impacted by his ministry.
“The Venerable Edwin, who was kidnapped alongside his wife, has been confirmed dead. His passing is a painful loss to the entire Diocese, the clergy, and the church family,” the statement read.

The church expressed deep sorrow over his death and called for prayers for the release of his wife and daughter, who remain in captivity.
