ACF engages journalists, influencers on unified narrative for greater impact

Story by Halima BAWA, Gift LUCKSON

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has engaged journalists and social media influencers in a collaborative effort to promote unified content that reflects northern values, fosters national cohesion, and amplifies the voices of young people.

Seeking to open its doors wider to young voices, the ACF also urged northern youths to key into the activities of the forum and promote unity among the varying tribes and religions in the region.

Chairman of the Forum, Chief Mamman Osuman (SAN), made the call on Friday during a roundtable discussion at the ACF headquarters in Kaduna as part of events marking the forum’s 25th anniversary.

He warned against complacency and misinformation within the ranks of the North’s socio-political leadership.

The engagement with online news platforms and Social Media Influencers, spearheaded by the forum’s Subcommittee on Social Media, aims to strengthen public awareness and foster better communication with the public.

Recognising the growing influence of digital platforms and the vital role of the media, the Forum said the partnership is to amplify its message, address misinformation, and encourage constructive national discourse.

In his address, former Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, emphasised the importance of accurate reporting, positive storytelling that projects the true opinions and identities of the northern people, as well as responsible use of digital platforms in shaping public discourse.

By bringing together mainstream media practitioners and new-media voices, the ACF hopes to create a synergy that not only informs but also educates and promotes the political, economic, cultural, and social interests of the North.

The initiative also seeks to counter divisive narratives online and offline about the northern region.

The Forum assured that this engagement will continue, providing a platform for open dialogue, idea-sharing, and collaboration with stakeholders in the information space.
