Adamawa Muslim Pilgrims Commission compensates land owners for Yola Hajj transition camp

Story from Abdulaziz JAURO, Yola

The Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Commission, Adamawa State, has compensated legitimate occupants of plots and owners of properties on the land on which the Adamawa Hajj transition camp was built.

The event took place at the Corporate Headquarters of the Commission on Friday after a thorough examination of claimants’ documents and proof of ownership by a committee constituted for that purpose by the Commission.

The membership of the committee is composed of representatives of the Adamawa State MDAs, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Anti-graft and relevant security agencies as well as the traditional institution.

The screening exercise took three days after which cases of 22 claimants were considered legitimate and cleared as well as presented with check/bank draft.

In a remark, the Permanent Secretary and Executive Secretary of the Commission, Malam Abubakar Salihu, commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his intervention and magnanimity in settling the issue which has been lingering for over a decade.

The Executive Secretary who appreciated the beneficiaries for their patience and understanding urged them to support the present administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Commission, Imam Umar Bappari Kem, appealed to the beneficiaries to utilise what they got judiciously.

In a vote of thanks, a representative of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Adamawa State Government for the gesture.

It could be recalled that when Malam Abubakar Salihu came on board, he put in tremendous efforts toward resolving the protracted issue of encroachment on the Hajj Camp land adjacent to the Yola International Airport, as a result, NAHCON management stepped up the construction of the three-star hotel like accommodation on the land which is to serve as Hajj transition camp.

It is to the credit of the Executive Secretary that the project is now completed and substantial land has also been reclaimed from land grabbers who illegally sold out most of the land.

Also, a perimeter fence/wall was erected around the facility to guard against encroachment and an access road is being constructed as well as landscaping the hotel.
