African traditional leaders appoint Emir of Fika National Convener, partner Neptune Prime on GBV

Conference of Traditional Leaders in Africa (COTLA), a non-governmental organisation under United Nation Women, has appointed the Emir of Fika and Chairman of Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Highness, Dr Muhammad Abali Ibn Idrissa, as the National Convener that would oversee all its activities in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

COTLA is an initiative under UN Women to champion the fight against gender-based violence which threatens the health, productivity and rights of women and girls in Nigeria.

Speaking to Neptune Prime in Abuja, coordinating secretary of COTLA, Ibrahim Waziri Gimba, said under the leadership of the Emir of Fika, Dr Idris, COTLA will partner Managing Conflict in Nigeria (MCN) to generate funds and support development projects aimed at preventing and addressing GBV and aid the peace-building and reconstruction of the North East region and other parts of the country adversely affected by insurgency and other forms of insecurity.

Waziri Gimba also said COTLA, under the Emir of Fika in collaboration with Neptune Prime Newspaper, would be operating from Neptune Prime’s head office at Suite 304, 3rd floor, Yobe Investment House, plot 1332, Ralph Shodeinde Street, Central Business District, Abuja.

Founded by the UN Women, COTLA seeks human development including peace and security, eradicating gender-based violence and addressing peace and security in West Africa and the Sahel region.

The organisation also resolve to encourages-child education, end violence against children and eliminate all forms of discrimination against women.
