Fresh details have emerged indicating that the ₦2 million earlier handed over to Mr Ya’u Mohammed by the Department of State Services (DSS) was only an initial intervention package meant to cover his immediate transportation, welfare and temporary resettlement after regaining his freedom.
Further findings revealed that the DSS leadership is considering a far larger support package aimed at ensuring the young man’s full reintegration and long-term economic stability following investigations which cleared him of any wrongdoing.
Sources close to the development disclosed that Mr Oluwatosin Ajayi (MON) the Director General of the DSS is currently considering additional support aimed at ensuring the young man’s proper reintegration into society through the establishment of a sustainable means of livelihood.

The sources further indicated that the gesture forms part of a broader humane and reform-oriented approach being promoted by the current DSS boss, particularly in cases where investigations eventually establish the innocence of detained persons.
According to the findings, the Service, under the leadership of Mr Ajayi has in recent times quietly extended similar forms of assistance and compensation to some cleared detainees in different parts of the country as part of efforts to restore dignity, promote justice and rebuild public confidence.
It was also gathered that the Director General has consistently emphasised professionalism, fairness and respect for fundamental human rights among staff of the Service, while encouraging officers to combine firmness in national security operations with compassion and responsibility.
Meanwhile, family members and community leaders in Gashua and other parts of Yobe State have continued to commend the DSS for what they described as an uncommon act of humanity and accountability.
Many residents reportedly expressed appreciation for the manner in which the matter was handled after the young man was found innocent.
Security stakeholders have also described the development as a commendable example of responsible security management, capable of strengthening public trust, cooperation, and confidence in national security institutions.
