Again, bandits strike Southern Kaduna, kidnap village head, 14 others
Tragedy struck again in Southern Kaduna as armed bandits launched an attack on the village of Ungwan Babangida in Kauru Local Government Area, kidnapping the village head and 14 other residents. The incident occurred at midnight on Thursday, with the attackers using sophisticated weapons to shoot sporadically from vantage positions before whisking their victims away.
The attack was confirmed by Aminu Khalid, the youth leader of Dokan Karji, who spoke to reporters via telephone. He revealed that among the kidnapped victims were three women and nine men, including the village head, identified as Babangida Sojiji. In addition, two labourers who had come to the area from Jigawa State and Ikara Local Government Area in Kaduna State for farming activities were also among those taken.

This attack comes barely 48 hours after a similar incident in the nearby Libere community, where bandits abducted four farmers. The frequency of these kidnappings has raised serious concerns among local residents, who have called for urgent action to address the growing insecurity in the region.
Khalid stressed the need for serious military intervention to tackle the bandits who have taken control of several villages in the area. He noted that many families have lost breadwinners to the violence, and the community is in dire need of protection.
“Federal government and security operatives must intensify efforts to cripple the activities of these criminals who have made life unbearable for villagers,” Khalid said, urging a more robust response to the escalating violence.
He also acknowledged the efforts of local vigilante groups, whose intervention had foiled several kidnapping attempts in the past. However, the growing presence of the bandits and their increasing boldness have made it clear that more needs to be done.
As of now, the Kaduna Police Command has not issued a statement on the latest attack, and efforts to reach the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
The residents of Kauru Local Government Area remain on edge, fearing further attacks, as they continue to call for immediate action to restore peace and security to the region.
