Again, national grid collapses

The national electricity grid collapsed just before noon on Wednesday, as reported by the official @NationalGridNg account.

A “GRID DISTURBANCE” was noted earlier, causing power outages in various parts of the country. Further updates were promised shortly.

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) confirmed the system outage occurred at 11:34 am on February 12, 2025.

“Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today, February 12, 2025, at 11:34 am, affecting all our feeders. Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders,” the company wrote.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) also confirmed the disturbance on X.

“Dear Valued Customer, we regret to inform you that a system disturbance occurred on the national grid at 11:34 am today, resulting in a power outage across our franchise areas. While gradual restoration has begun, we are working with relevant stakeholders to restore full power as soon as the grid stabilizes. Thank you for your understanding and patience,” the AEDC post read.

This marks the first grid collapse of 2025, following a line tripping incident in January. The blackout has sparked frustration on social media.

One user, @OyedemiBabs (Fattybright), expressed their frustration: “Two different reasons, please—who should I believe now? If not for solar, I’d be in deep trouble. @NationalGridNg, please be specific. ‘Shortly’ won’t fix my need for original light. Thanks for the info, though.”

Another user, @holuwhartoby (Gambino), commented, “What do you mean by ‘grid disturbance’ again? Did the grid collapse or not?”

Ayo Omo Ogun (@MDamsman) shared his struggles in Obada, writing: “It’s been a tough day, especially with the issues caused by @IBEDC_NG. Now, it seems like the grid issue is making things worse. It’s a lot to handle.”

Finally, @awosanyaremmy1 (Awosanya Remilekun) expressed concern over the situation: “It’s highly regrettable, especially with the current weather conditions.”
