The Federal Government has underscored the significant economic and industrial impact of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project, with assurances that it will be operational by the end of the first quarter of 2025.

This announcement was made during an inspection visit to the AKK Gas Pipeline Project site in Kaduna by three key cabinet ministers.

The inspection team included Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Mohammed Idris Malagi; and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo. They were accompanied by the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC), Mr. Mele Kyari, and other senior officials.

Mr. Kyari assured the ministers that significant progress has been made on the project, with major segments already completed.

“Without promising too much, we assure you that this project will be delivered on schedule. Our mission is to work towards delivering it by December this year, but we are confident this project will be delivered by the first quarter of 2025,” Kyari stated.

Highlighting the project’s importance, Mr. Edun described the AKK Gas Pipeline as a “pipeline of prosperity” crucial for Nigeria’s economic growth and industrialisation. He emphasized that its completion aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s strategy to bring prosperity to the nation.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Mohammed Idris Malagi, remarked that the AKK Gas Pipeline Project is a testament to the Federal Government’s “Decade of Gas” initiative. “Nigerians should be proud of the AKK Gas Pipeline project. With the delivery of this project, the prosperity that Mr. President is always talking about is unravelling right here before our eyes,” he said.

Minister Ekpo noted that the pipeline is part of the government’s broader efforts to harness Nigeria’s abundant gas resources to improve power generation, revamp industries, and create employment opportunities.

During the visit, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, representing Governor Uba Sani, expressed optimism that the AKK Gas Pipeline will spur economic and industrial revival in the state.

“The pipeline will revamp our industries and bring about a huge impact on our people. We can’t wait for it to be completed,” she said.

The Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline is a 40-inch by 614-kilometer linear pipeline system running from Ajaokuta in Kogi State to Kano, with associated facilities to transport natural gas to Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano. The project is funded by NNPC on the back of its balance sheet, underscoring its strategic importance to Nigeria’s economy.

The three ministers commended NNPC Ltd and its project partner, Brentex/CPP Ltd, for the progress made and expressed confidence that the project will be delivered as promised.
