ASUU re-elects Emmanuel Osodeke as national president

Emmanuel Osodeke has been re-elected as the national president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for another two-year term.

The election took place during the 22nd national delegates conference of the union, held at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) from May 19 to 21.

During the conference, Chris Piwuna, an associate professor at the University of Jos and a consultant psychiatrist, was also elected as the vice president of the union.

Several other national officers of the union were re-elected, including Siji Sowande as treasurer, Ade Adejumo as financial secretary, Austen Sado as investment secretary, and Adamu Babayo as an internal auditor.

Aisha Bawa was elected as the new welfare secretary, replacing Stella-Maris Okey.

Emmanuel Osodeke initially assumed the presidency of ASUU in May 2021, following his election during the national delegates conference held in Awka, Anambra State.

He is a lecturer at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, in Abia State.

During his previous term, ASUU embarked on an eight-month strike in 2022, advocating for increased funding for universities across the country and improved welfare for lecturers.
