Atiku condemns Lagos Assembly invasion
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has strongly condemned the invasion of the Lagos State House of Assembly by security operatives on Monday, describing the incident as “utterly reprehensible.” In a statement shared on his X handle, Atiku called for a full and thorough investigation into the matter.
He expressed confusion over reports that the security operatives had been given a mandate to enforce a leadership change within the House. Atiku stated, “The viral video showing armed security operatives invading the Lagos State House of Assembly is utterly reprehensible and must be thoroughly investigated. It is bewildering that these operatives allegedly had a mandate to force a leadership change in the House.”

Atiku further criticized those who claim to have fought for democracy but are now responsible for what he called a “crass desecration” of the state’s legislative body. He warned that such actions jeopardize the nation’s hard-won democracy.
The PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election described the invitation of security forces to resolve a parliamentary conflict as disgraceful. He emphasized, “This act is an attack on the sanctity of democracy and a shameful affront to the Nigerian electorate, especially the people of Lagos. While leadership conflicts in the Lagos State House of Assembly may not be unusual in a democratic system, resorting to armed security operatives for resolution is unacceptable and must be urgently addressed.”
Atiku concluded by urging President Tinubu to focus on addressing the national issues that have left the country in turmoil rather than interfering in state matters.
