Atiku explains why his son, Abba Abubakar, defected to APC
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has explained the reasons behind the defection of his son, Abba Abubakar from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a personal political decision.
Atiku, who was the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, said his son exercised his constitutional right to freedom of association, stressing that family members are entitled to hold independent political views and affiliations.
Speaking on the development, Atiku noted that Abba Abubakar’s decision was based on his own political convictions and aspirations, and not influenced by family pressure. He added that political choices by relatives should not be interpreted as a reflection of internal family disagreement or a shift in his own political stance.
