DisCos begin load recovery after grid collapse Power Distribution Companies (DisCos) have initiated load recovery efforts following the collapse of the national grid on Saturday. As of 2:30 p.m., the total load for the DisCos had increased to 450 megawatts (MW), while the National Grid's target remains at 4,800 MW. The recent grid failure marks the third occurrence in a week, leaving many states in total blackout. The Nigerian System Operator’s portal reported an unprecedented zero megawatts (MW) load at 8:16 a.m. today, with seven out of the eleven electricity distribution companies recording no load allocation. The latest updates on load distribution for the various DisCos are as follows: Abuja DisCo: 80 MW Benin DisCo: 70 MW Eko DisCo: 70 MW Enugu DisCo: 0 MW Ibadan DisCo: 100 MW Ikeja DisCo: 130 MW Jos DisCo: 0 MW Kaduna DisCo: 0 MW Kano DisCo: 0 MW PHarcourt DisCo: 0 MW Yola DisCo: 0 MW Total: 450 MW In response to the blackout, Ndidi Mbah, the spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), stated that power had been restored, although many areas remain without electricity. The situation has prompted significant concern among residents, who have been left in darkness due to the frequent grid collapses. The National Grid had previously confirmed the extent of the outages, which have caused widespread frustration and disruption across the country. Efforts are underway to restore full functionality and stabilize the power supply to meet the growing demand. As the recovery process continues, stakeholders are calling for collaborative measures between Generation Companies (GenCos), TCN, and DisCos to unlock the full potential of Nigeria's power sector.
